Saturday Night

Saturday Night is the centerpiece of the Squeeze-In Weekend. We look forward to a fabulous meal, the evening concert, contra dance, pub sing and jamming into the wee hours of the morning.

Saturday Dinner.
We ask the chef to make this meal extra special. More about food at NESI

The Processional
After dinner, we have a processional march to our evening concert, with massed squeezers playing a tune together. The Processional tune/march this year is a traditional and well-known Scandinavian walking tune, the Äppelbo Gånglåt.  (Gånglåts were traditionally played for people walking a distance to a barn dance in Scandinavia. )

The Saturday Concert
There will be a sign-up sheet to participate in the concert near the workshop bulletin board. We invite folks of all skill levels to sign up. You don’t need to be an expert or professional, just be willing to share what you do with the friendliest and most supportive audience you’re likely ever to find. Because of the large number of people who usually participate, performers are limited to one song or one SHORT set of tunes. And you don’t need to play a free-reed instrument to perform -- we’ve had fiddles, clogging, a hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, and unaccompanied singers, among others. There are often ensembles that have connected by means of a workshop, so you might want to join one of those earlier in the day. We make a video recording of it that later gets posted for posterity on our website.

Haiku/Limerick Contest
You are invited to submitl limericks and/or haiku for our annual poetry contest. Winning submissions will be read during the concert and prizes of questionable value will be awarded. For more about how to enter visit the NESI Poetry Page.

Contra Dance
There will be a Contra Dance this year after the concert and, due to close quarters all participants will be asked to mask up. Visit the Contra Dance page for details.

Pub Sing
Look on the Big Board for the Pub Sing location. Bring your songs for a round-robin late night song fest!

More Jamming!
Jamming typically goes on into the wee hours of the morning. We do ask people to enjoy late-night jams only indesignated public spaces out of respect for sleepers and nearby residents.
